Liverpool derail deadline day transfer and tell club to 'wait' in extraordinary scenes

Liverpool derailed a deadline day transfer with their actions, according to stunning reports.

The Reds concluded their transfer business with the £30 million addition of 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, who has joined from Belgian side Genk.

His arrival follows the £123 million capture of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, as well as the signings of Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo - the latter joining on loan from Barcelona.

To the frustration of many fans, Liverpool did not bring in a new central midfield player. But they already appear to have a player in mind for next year after reaching out to both he and his club to give assurances for next year.

Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara looked nailed on to sign for Chelsea as the replacement for the outgoing Enzo Fernandez, who joined Manchester City for a joint-record £125 million fee.

The deal could not have been closer. Chelsea had an agreement to sign Camara after a £47million bid was accepted. The player also completed his medical and agreed terms on a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

But Monaco pulled out at the death and the deal for Senegal international Camara collapsed after the Ligue One side went "back on their word" in a move Chelsea consider "deeply unprofessional".

Camara has been left in limbo as a result but according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool made a call to both his camp and Monaco regarding a 2027 transfer.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jacobs said: "I can tell you something exclusive right now. Liverpool made a call - and one than one I am told - to say to Camara, 'Wait'. To say to Monaco, 'Wait'.

"Because Liverpool don't want Lamine Camara now and they never explored it. But my understanding is that Liverpool said to Monaco, 'Wait' and said to Camara, 'Wait'.

"We are not saying Liverpool interfered in the deal to Chelsea, Liverpool said all day, 'If you don't get your move, we will be back for you potentially in 2027'.

"And that is a factor in this story. Monaco's belief is that they can get 70 million euros. They had to give a cut-price deal because at the point they agreed it with Chelsea, they needed the money."

He added: "Liverpool believe the price is 70 million. Period. That's what they were telling Chelsea all day but when they though they didn't have the [Folarin] Balogun money, they had to reduce it."

Chelsea had a second bid of £47 million accepted for Camara but after a full agreement was reached, it all came crashing down.

The Balogun no-deal was equally as dramatic, with the United States international set to return to the Premier League with Everton.

Everton had issues with Balogun's medical and then turned their attentions to Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee but were unsuccessful in that loan pursuit.

The move for Balogun was renegotiated between the two clubs and poised to happen, with a deal sheet submitted.

However, the former Arsenal man had a change of heart and decided against signing - with David Ornstein of The Athletic confirming he left Everton's training ground without signing.
