Liverpool fans noticed Darwin Nunez's 'petulant' reaction to the match officials following the final whistle and they are furious.

Liverpool suffered a bruising 2-0 defeat to Everton in a major blow to their Premier League title hopes.

Jarrad Branthwaite opened the scoring in the 27th minute before Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed home in the 58th minute.

Virgil van Dijk spoke to Sky Sports following his side's defeat, which was immediately called out by Wayne Rooney.

Jamie Carragher took aim at Nunez for his 'unforgivable' moment during the league fixture at Goodison Park.

And the Uruguayan forward was also subject to criticism by Liverpool fans, who didn't like his reactions after the result.

The 24-year-old sarcastically applauded in the direction of match referee Andy Madley and the linesman, who noticed the player's gesture.

The referee was atrocious but after that performance I wouldn’t be applauding him if I was Nunez.

Liverpool fans online fumed at Nunez's behaviour as they referenced Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah trying to calm him down.

One X user slammed: "Salah and Klopp were telling him to put a lid on it. His petulance can be so damn annoying."

A second tweeted: "If this is him trying to get the fans back on his side it won’t work it’ll actually make it worse just get ur head down and p*ss off back to the dressing room."

A third exclaimed: "Does Darwin even know we lost the league? Maybe he does not know.. I am serious."

A fourth said: "He’s giving it large like he wasn’t so shit that his own manager shushed him."

Another wrote: "Nunez was that invisible even the lino got confused when he heard clapping."

Nunez missed a huge change when his side trailed, which proved crucial as Liverpool lost their second league game of the month.

This season, he has 11 league goals to his name, having made 32 appearances.

Liverpool resume their league campaign on Saturday when they travel to West Ham United.
