Liverpool did something against Bournemouth they've not managed for 59 years

Jurgen Klopp has made history.

Liverpool managed to do something they haven't managed in 59 years during Sunday's 4-0 win over Bournemouth.

Jurgen Klopp's side moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League thanks to two goals each from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.

Bournemouth looked the better side during the first half, although Nunez's 100th career goal four minutes after the break swung momentum in the Reds' favour.

Jota finished off a slick counter to make it 2-0 with 20 minutes to go, grabbing his second and Liverpool's third 10 minutes later.

In added time, Nunez turned a Joe Gomez cross past Neto in the Bournemouth net to seal all three points.

Liverpool are currently without several first-team players through injury. Among those missing are Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago Alcantara and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Mohamed Salah joined up with Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations but has returned to Liverpool after suffering a hamstring injury during Thursday's game against Ghana.

Klopp's been forced to dip into Liverpool's academy and trust his youngsters to get the job done.

20-year-old Connor Bradley made his Premier League debut at the Vitality Stadium, helping set up Jota's first goal.

Harvey Elliott, who is the same age, started in midfield, while Ryan Gravenberch (21) came off the bench for Elliott in the second half.

Bobby Clark (18), Kaide Gordon (19) and Owen Beck (21) all replaced Curtis Jones, Jota and Bradley as the game came to a close.

Per Michael Reid, a football data editor at OptaJoe, that's only the fourth time Liverpool have used six players 21 years old or younger during a game. It's also the first time that's happened since a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in April 1965.

Jarell Quansah, who was an unused substitute, is another academy graduate who has made a name for himself this season.

Klopp discussed the integration of young players prior to the Bournemouth game.

He explained: "The academy produce the players but it's all about the players because even the academy cannot perform miracles and make wonderful art out of a piece of wood, there must be some talent. I love that.

"These boys, they [don't have to be] Scousers but when it's on top of that a Scouser it's even more fun, but obviously we have players from different areas here in the region. So that [being a Scouser] will not be the ticket into the first team, but it's cool.

"I think what helps most is kind of the rise of Trent [Alexander-Arnold], Curtis [Jones], now Jarell. That's what drives young players, to see it's possible in a top team in the Premier League, or maybe in the world, to get into.

"It's good. We are really happy about that but obviously we needed it as well, that's clear."
