Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after seeing what one player did against Athletic Bilbao.

On Monday, the Reds returned to Anfield as they took on La Liga side Bilbao in back-to-back matches.

Liverpool won 4-1 in the first match thanks to goals from Rio Ngumoha, Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott and an own goal from Alex Padilla. Gorka Guruzeta was the scorer for the visitors.

In the second contest, Arne Slot's men recorded a 3-2 victory, with Cody Gakpo (2) and Mohamed Salah on the scoresheet.

The Reds will begin their 25/26 campaign this weekend at Wembley when they take on Crystal Palace in the final of the FA Community Shield, after that, they will kick off the Premier League season against Bournemouth at Anfield.

After the first match came to an end, fans spotted that young midfielder Elliott was applauding each stand at Anfield and blew a kiss towards The Kop.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: "Harvey Elliot applauded each stand at the end of the first game and blew a kiss to The Kop. If it’s the last time… good luck fella."

Another tweeted: "Hope he scores big elsewhere."

A third fan added: "Yeah he’s off I reckon."

Someone else wrote: "Yep that's his last time in red at Anfield you could see it in his face after scoring and at the end, he loves the club but he got to go play every week in a starting 11."

A fifth commented: "In any other Liverpool team he’d start every week, shame there’s other players ahead of him that won’t be dropped."

Another fan said: "Love Harv - sad day but we must not stand in his way. Just keep the door open."

Elliott is a firm fans favourite due to his passion for the club, revealing that he is in fact a Liverpool fan, the young Englishman previously stated that he would stay at the club for his entire career if he could.

What has Harvey Elliott said about his future?

Last month, he said: "If I had it my way, I would be here for the rest of my career, it’s as simple as that. I love everything about the club.

"But at the same time, I kind of need to be selfish with myself and see what’s best for me."

Elliott added: "I have big ambitions, I want to get in the World Cup [squad], keep being successful as a player. I think it’s still something I need to review, I need to have a talk with everyone and review the situation."

So far this summer, the 22-year-old has been linked with the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion, West Ham United, Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur.
