Why Liverpool will still be wearing their third kit vs Arsenal despite there being no clash, it's a great reason

The FA Cup third round is in full swing this weekend in one of the most awaited round of fixtures in the English football calendar.

The Premier League takes a back seat with the oldest cup competition in the world taking centre stage, though there have been a fair few all top flight encounters.

Crystal Palace played out a goalless draw with Everton and a replay is due to be played, while Brentford will also take on Wolves again following a 1-1, and Spurs beat Burnley 1-0 thanks to Pedro Porro's stunning strike.

Arguably the tie of the round takes place later on today when Premier League leaders Liverpool travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal.

The Anfield club sit at the summit of the top flight after playing 20 games of the Premier League campaign, while the Gunners are fourth and five points behind Jurgen Klopp's side after successive defeats.

The victors of this evening's encounter will not only secure passage to the fourth round draw, but also pocket £105,000 in prize money, which is peanuts really for Premier League clubs, but every little helps.

The spoils were shared last time these sides met at Anfield last month in a 1-1 draw, when Mo Salah cancelled out Gabriel's opener, though if there is a draw this time around it will go to a replay.

When the two sides last met, Liverpool were in their customary red home strip, while the Gunners donned their bright yellow away kit.

This evening however, neither side will be in their usual home strips.

Liverpool will be wearing their purple third kit, while Arsenal will wear an all white strip - and both are doing so for a very good reason indeed.

It is for Arsenal's No More Red campaign, which was launched in January 2022 to support the long-standing work undertaken by the Gunners to help keep young people safe from knife crime and youth violence.

The all white kit which Arsenal wear will not be for sale, but a new bespoke community t-shirt will be available to purchase from the club later this month, with all proceeds going to charities which are No More Red partners.

Regarding the campaign, Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah told Sky Sports News: "It's a lovely campaign, one that I really support.

"Keeping kids occupied and keeping them busy always helps lower the rate of crime. I think it's really important.

"Growing up in areas where there's not as much opportunity... we can show that you have those chances to get your mind off things and get away and get in that safe space where you feel at home and feel comfortable."

It sounds like a fantastic cause and it's a nice gesture that Liverpool will be supporting it too with their kit choice.

Liverpool will wear their third kit against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday to show support for the ‘no more red’ campaign by not wearing their usual colours. 🔴❌
