Alexis Mac Allister seen limping as he returns to Liverpool dressing room in potential injury blow

Mac Allister could be injured.

Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister was spotted limping off the pitch at half-time during the Reds' friendly against Bayern Munich.

Mac Allister is one of two new Liverpool signings this summer, joining from Brighton for a fee of £35 million in June.

He has impressed onlookers during pre-season, playing in the 'number eight' or 'number six' role as part of a Liverpool midfield three.

Mac Allister was handed a start by manager Jurgen Klopp for the Bayern friendly - another sign that he will be part of the starting XI for the Reds' first Premier League game of the season against Chelsea.

But those plans may have been a dealt a minor blow, with the Argentinian the subject of an injury concern.

Footage from Twitter user @lfcbrintha showed the Argentinian limping back to the Liverpool dressing room at half-time, having picked up a suspected knee problem during the first half.

The Argentinian is flanked by two members of Liverpool's medical team, and did not emerge for the second half of the friendly.

The sight of one of their marquee signings - in a position the Reds are currently short in - will no doubt have concerned Reds fans, with the start of the Premier League season beginning in just 11 days' time.

But The Athletic's James Pearce gave supporters a slightly more reassuring picture with an update from the stadium.

He tweeted: "He's now up on his feet. Hobbling a bit but looks okay. Think it was just a bang on the knee."

Liverpool have yet to give an official update on the midfielder, with the Bayern friendly still ongoing, but they will desperately hope that, if any injury has been picked up, it is not one that will cause Mac Allister to miss any action at the beginning of the season.
