Jurgen Klopp sent a 'series of messages' to transfer target Moises Caicedo, who brutally replied to the Liverpool boss.

Liverpool attempted to sign Caicedo from Brighton before Chelsea secured a British-record fee of £115 million.

The Reds had their own massive offer of £111 million accepted by Brighton as Klopp looked to sign the star midfielder.

The German manager reached out to the player for the first time hours earlier after Liverpool agreed a deal with Brighton on the evening of August 10.

According to The Athletic, he opened the dialogue by 'launching a charm offensive with a series of messages' as he expressed his admiration for the Ecuadorian. He also made it clear how much he wanted the 21-year-old to play for him.

However, the Liverpool manager didn't get the response he was after.

In a massive blow to Klopp, Caicedo replied with a text message saying he appreciated Liverpool's desire, but he did not want to move to Anfield and was only looking to join the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Mauricio Pochettino will have the luxury to call upon the services of Caicedo and spoke of the 'quality' he and Romeo Lavia possess.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea's match against West Ham United last Sunday, he said: "We all know Romeo and his quality, his profile. I think he’s a perfect player for this project. We are excited and we are so happy to add him in the squad."

He added: "The club worked really hard on these signings. We have to congratulate the owners and the sporting directors Laurence [Stewart] and Paul [Winstanley], because the job was amazing.

"To add these types of players like Moises and Romeo, and all the previous signings, is fantastic for the club.

"We need to congratulate the job that they are doing, the owners and sporting directors, because it has been fantastic. These types of players, with the quality that they have, in this squad and this project, I think it’s an amazing thing. It’s a very exciting moment and situation for the club."

Caicedo has since made his Chelsea debut as he endured a tough start to life at the club, having conceded a penalty in his new side's 3-1 defeat at West Ham.

Liverpool, meanwhile, went onto sign Wataru Endo from Stuttgart after missing out on both Caicedo and Lavia. The Japanese midfielder made his debut for his new team in their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth last weekend.
