Fans have had their say after spotting what Liverpool transfer target Hugo Ekitike posted about Mohamed Salah in 2021.
Eintracht Frankfurt forward Ekitike, 23, has been the subject of a tug-of-war between Newcastle United and Liverpool in recent days having impressed in the Bundesliga with 15 goals and six assists in 33 appearances in 2024/25.
The Magpies bid £64.9m for the France international earlier this week, but the offer was rejected by the German outfit.
On Thursday (July 17), The Athletic reported that Liverpool are in now in advanced talks over a transfer and have proposed a package of £69.2m to sign the former Paris Saint-Germain marksman with personal terms not expected to be an issue as Anfield has been the player’s preference over a move to the North East.

If the deal is completed, Ekitike will become the Premier League champions’ sixth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi, Florian Wirtz and Freddie Woodman.

Ekitike will be hoping he can be a valuable addition to an already top-class side that will, no doubt, be looking to add to their Premier League triumph last term.
Salah, 33, will likely play on right flank with Ekitike through the middle while usual left-sided star Luis Diaz has made it clear that he wants to leave the club this summer. Darwin Nunez has also been linked with a potential departure.

And ahead of a potential move from Frankfurt to Liverpool for Ekitike, some eagle-eyed fans have spotted what he reposted about Salah on X back in 2021 – which you can view below.

This came following the Red’s 3-1 defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals first leg, a match in which Salah struggled to make a positive impact against a strong Los Blancos outfit.
Fans were quick to have their say on the repost.

One said: "Hugo Ekitike is so much a United fan he was even reposting Mo Salah slander."
Another added: "Don’t push this nonsense please. Hojlund is also a United fan and that doesn’t make him good for us."
A third explained: "Salah's own striker doesn't rate him."
