Harvey Elliott scored one of the best goals of this summer's European Under-21 Championship, just hours after a Premier League club reportedly abandoned a move for the Liverpool midfielder.

The 22-year-old scored twice on Wednesday afternoon as England secured their place in the Euros final following a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Netherlands.

Elliott, who has netted four times for the Young Lions this summer, has been one of the tournament's standout performers as speculation continues over his uncertain future at Liverpool.

Liverpool are said to have placed a £40 million price tag on the former Fulham man, which has 'deterred' fellow Premier League side Wolves from making a move, according to journalist Dean Jones.

"Wolves were deterred by Harvey Elliott’s asking price when they touched base about a deal," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "Brighton are showing more willingness around a £40 million valuation."

Last month, Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that Elliott, who was once hailed as a "sensational talent" by Jurgen Klopp, is being tracked by a number of interested parties.

"A departure of Harvey Elliott is possible," wrote Plettenberg on X. "There are many interesting enquiries, and talks are ongoing. Liverpool would not stand in his way if a suitable offer comes in. His contract runs until 2027."

The attacking midfielder, who joined Liverpool in 2019, made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in 2024/25, but the majority of those came from the substitutes bench.

In fact, he made just six starts, including one in the Premier League.

After Arne Slot's side celebrated their Premier League triumph in front of a jubilant Anfield crowd last month, Elliott took to Instagram to pen an emotional message. He wrote: “Memories for life. Thank you Reds.”

Speaking to LFCTV during the celebrations, Elliott appeared to suggest that his time at Anfield could be coming to an end, saying that “you never know what’s going to happen” amid reports surrounding his future.

“I think this one, I’ve played more of a part in winning the league,” he said, referring back to the club's Premier League title win in 2019/20. “The season that we won it last time I was still a young kid, I think I only made four appearances or something like that.

“So now it definitely feels like I’ve been in and around it a lot.

“Since coming back from my injury I’ve been in every squad, so just being part of it, just doing the travelling, the away games, all the stuff outside of playing, it feels a lot greater this time. I’m just trying to enjoy every experience of it, because you never know what’s going to happen."

He added: “You can’t take these moments for granted, you just need to enjoy it as much as you can, celebrate as much as you can as well.”
