Harvey Elliott chooses next club as 'personal terms agreed' ahead of loan move

Harvey Elliott has received several proposals ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline, but the midfielder has now 'agreed personal terms' with La Liga side Valencia following discussions.

The 23-year-old returned to Liverpool this summer after a frustrating spell at Aston Villa.

On deadline day last summer, Elliott joined Unai Emery's side on a season-long loan, a deal that included an obligation to sign him permanently for £35 million if he played 10 games in the league.

However, the former Fulham man struggled for first-team minutes under Emery. In fact, he played just 277 minutes across the 2025-26 campaign, a total that included just four Premier League appearances.

“To now explain about the reason for this decision is very difficult, or it is easy, but it is not the moment,” Emery said in May. “Of course, it is something embarrassing for everyone involved. My apologies for Harvey Elliott is every day in my mind."

Elliott has featured for Liverpool in pre-season, with new head coach Andoni Iraola previously praising the midfielder's determination to rebuild his career at Anfield.

That being said, it appears another loan move is on the horizon. Elliott has already spoken with Iraola and asked him to join Valencia, according to Marca's Matteo Moretto, who claims negotiations between the two clubs are 'very advanced'.

Andoni Iraola admits he 'prefers other options' to Harvey Elliott

Ahead of Liverpool's clash against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon, Iraola gave a brutally honest response when asked about Elliott's future at Anfield.

The midfielder was left out of the club's matchday squad alongside Federico Chiesa, who has also been linked with a move this summer.

“With Harvey, with [Luke] Chambers, with some of the players that I decided – because I can only choose 20 – to leave out, it’s a matter of finding the balance on the bench,” he said.

“In Harvey’s case, he’s trying, he’s improving every week, but I still prefer other options.

“Probably I was in doubt with James McConnell in terms of getting into the squad, and I decided to put James in the squad. But it’s another new week, new chances for everyone, and they have to keep that mentality.”
