Fans are concerned after camera pans to Federico Chiesa watching Man United vs Liverpool

Federico Chiesa wasn't in the squad for Liverpool's trip to Manchester United but that didn't stop him becoming a talking point.

The Italy international became Liverpool's only addition under new boss Arne Slot this summer, signing in a deal that could total £12.5 million after finding himself out of favour at Juventus.

Slot decided against selecting Chiesa after his lack of minutes in pre-season and he was instead in the the director's box for the the crunch clash.

The camera panned to the former Fiorentina winger around ten minutes in and a number of fans all made the very same observation.

They noticed that the 26-year-old did not blink once for a good few seconds in what was actually quite frightening viewing.

One fan asked: "Why does Chiesa look so scared?"

Another said: "Why did Chiesa not blink at all while the camera panned to him."

A third joked: "Don’t make eye contact with Federico Chiesa otherwise you’ll turn in to stone."

A fourth user added: "Chiesa, smile please I beg."

A final person commented: "He looks absolutely terrified."

Chiesa watched on as Luis Diaz, one of the players he will be competing with for a spot in the Reds' forward line, scored twice at Old Trafford.

Earlier on the Merseysiders had a Trent Alexander-Arnold goal disallowed for a narrow offside from Mo Salah in the build-up.

After signing a long-term deal, Chiesa told Liverpool's official website: "I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.

“So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”

Chiesa looks set to make his debut for Liverpool after the international break, with the team in action against Nottingham Forest and West Ham in the league and cup respectively.
