Liverpool’s new signing Federico Chiesa has revealed what the club included in a video during private talks that led to him moving to Merseyside.

On Thursday afternoon, Liverpool announced the signing of Chiesa from Juventus.

A statement from the club read: “Liverpool have reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Federico Chiesa, subject to international clearance.

“The 26-year-old forward has successfully completed a medical and finalised terms on a long-term deal – and is now set to join up with the Reds squad.”

It has been reported that Liverpool will pay a guaranteed fee of £10 million and £2.5 million in performance-related add-ons.

Chiesa is Arne Slot’s second signing of the summer following the deal to bring in Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

However, the Georgian goalkeeper will stay with the La Liga club this season and only move to Anfield ahead of the 25/26 campaign.

After joining the club, Chiesa, 26, spoke about a video that was shown to him by the club when speaking about the reason why he will wear the number 14.

He said: “It’s the number I’ve been wearing with the national team but it was an easy pick because Liverpool sent me a video and at the end of this video – which was showing my career [and] the goals I scored with Fiorentina and Juventus – it was me with the No.14 shirt on so I said, ‘Ah, it was destined to be!’, so I chose the No.14.”

On why he chose Liverpool, the Italian added: “I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans. So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.

“And I just want to say something that stuck to my mind when I was about to land [in] the aeroplane. I saw Anfield and as soon as I saw Anfield I said to my wife, 'Put the song on, YNWA, because I want to imagine myself playing there and hearing the chant of the fans.’”

When asked about Slot, Chiesa said: “He told me about his football style, what he wants from me and I said to him I'm coming to help! To help the team, and to help win trophies which is the most important thing.”
