Road where Diogo Jota died is accident blackspot as shocking report reveals just how dangerous it is

Details of the road where the tragic accident happened have emerged.

A new report has revealed that the road that Liverpool star Diogo Jota died on is a dangerous accident blackspot.

Tragic news broke on Thursday announcing that Liverpool striker Jota and his brother Andre Silva had been involved in a fatal car crash in the Zamora region of Spain during the early hours of the morning.

The pair were driving back to Liverpool ahead of pre-season, when their car suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking, causing them to crash into the side of the road.

It then caught fire and, according to witnesses who called emergency services, became 'engulfed in flames'.

And now, local officials have spoken out to warn drivers about the dangers of the road where Jota and his brother tragically lost their lives.

As the two brothers travelled to Santander, where they were to catch a ferry back to the UK, they drove along the A-52 dual carriageway

Since the crash, Angel Blanco, a central government representative for the Zamora, described the road as being 'very dangerous'

Meanwhile sources from Cernadilla town hall, close to where Jota crashed, reportedly spoke about the road to local press, saying: “As [the A-52] passes through Cernadilla it is full of bends at 120 kilometres per hour.

“Poor visibility at night tend is often the cause of accidents in these areas.

“Today it was two famous footballers, who had a great career ahead of them, but perhaps tomorrow the victims will be two more anonymous people.”

A recent annual accident report confirmed that the road was the most dangerous in the region, with more crashes along the route than any other nearby road.

According to local newspaper El Dia de Zamora, a total of 19 crashes were reported on the dual carriageway in 2023.

Tragically, these accidents are often fatal, with an average of 1.5 deaths per incident.

The specific spot where Jota crashed has also been described as a 'blackspot' for the Ibernian wolf and deer, with many of the crashes on the road involving a collision with wildlife.

Locals have raised several complaints with local authorities regarding the poor safety conditions of the road, but it is yet to be altered.
