Liverpool handed huge boost over dream target for Arne Slot after £12m transfer agreed

Arne Slot could be set to welcome a new player to his squad in the coming transfer windows.

Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of a highly-rated Premier League player.

Since Arne Slot took charge of the Merseyside club, they have been in excellent form. Liverpool currently sit top of the Premier League heading into tomorrow’s fixture against Manchester United at Anfield, and they are also at the summit of the 36-team Champions League group phase.

However, Slot’s short time at the helm has still brought its challenges.

Aside from the ongoing contract situations that Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk find themselves in, another potential gripe Slot, 46, may have is the lack of signings.

Last summer, Liverpool saw a single new face join the club when Federico Chiesa arrived from Juventus. However, he has failed to impress in England and is linked with a potential move away from the club.

Now the January transfer window is open, the Reds will be free to bring in players to bolster their title ambitions. And they have already been handed a ‘boost’.

Liverpool have been linked with Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez for some time after the Hungarian has impressed for the Cherries since joining from AZ back in 2023.

Kerkez, 21, could be a potential successor to Slot’s first-choice left-back Andrew Robertson, who has failed to reach the levels expected of him this season.

The deal could be influenced by Bournemouth’s pursuit of Lanus’ left-back Julio Soler.

Soler, 19, has “agreed” a deal to move to Andoni Iraola’s side with the clubs agreeing on a “$15m fee [£12m]”, according to journalist Uriel Lugt.

As a result, this could see the club give Kerkez’s potential move to Liverpool the ‘green light’.

However, TBR reports that the Soler transfer is not “directly related” to Kerkez’s future.

Manchester United are also reportedly ‘interested’ in Kerkez, but it is thought that the player is happy to wait until the summer if he were to move on.

Kerkez, who sports 21 Hungary caps, has featured in all 19 Premier League games for Bournemouth this term and has provided two assists, as well as scoring once.

The 21-year-old’s contract is set to run until June 2028, and he is valued at £23.2m by Transfermarkt.
