Former Liverpool boss Arne Slot could soon return to management as links with a huge job have emerged.
Despite winning the Premier League in his first season with Liverpool in 2025, Slot was sacked on Saturday (May 30), with former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola expected to succeed him at Anfield.
The club made what was described as a “difficult” decision after Slot could only help Liverpool to a disappointing fifth-place finish in 2026, with many fans complaining about his at-times conservative style of play, while Mohamed Salah even called for a return to the “heavy-metal” style of his predecessor, Jurgen Klopp.
Within hours of his sacking, Slot was linked with replacing Massimo Allegri at AC Milan after the Italian also lost his job as the Italian giants failed to secure Champions League qualification for a second consecutive year, finishing fifth last season.

Meanwhile, a Dutch journalist has since suggested that Slot could be in line for a huge job.
Could Slot land a huge job, despite Liverpool sacking?
Speaking to talkSPORT’s White and Jordan, Marc van de Kraan first described how Slot was surprised by the club’s decision after giving “the impression that he was absolutely going to be the manager of Liverpool in the new season”.
“And that Saturday, I think, was an absolute bolt from the blue for Arne,” he said.
“And I spoke to him briefly on the Sunday as well, and I think he was still recovering from the absolute blow that this was.”
After claiming Slot “wasn’t bitter”, Van der Kraan added: “He was more still processing that surprise, realising he didn’t win a trophy. And in football, you know, you get judged on trophies.”
When it was put to him that Slot struggled to improve Liverpool’s players aside from Dominik Szoboszlai, Van der Kraan replied: “This is where it’s still puzzling me a little bit as well, because it was the opposite in all the years when he worked in the Netherlands.
“And the Premier League maybe does have bigger demands on foreign managers than we all think.
“Maybe the [style of] football, which he loved and he wanted to do, is maybe more suitable for continental styles; for the Dutch; Germany; Italy; Spain – I don’t know.
“The Premier League – high tempo – really does demand something special. And at the same time, we see that very few Dutch guys make it as managers in the Premier League.”
Van de Kraan then put forward the idea of Slot replacing Ronald Koeman as the Netherlands manager if he steps down after the World Cup.
“If Ronald Koeman steps down after the World Cup... there is a vacancy with the Dutch national team,” Van der Kraan added.
“I think Arne Slot is very, very much up for that; he’s probably the ideal candidate.
“He can play his Dutch style of football – the passing, attacking style, whatever you call it. I think the Dutch would be happy to have him.”
Koeman, who has been the side’s head coach since 2023, will see his current contract expire after the tournament.
