Alexis Mac Allister has shown Liverpool fans why he needs to change position following his performance for Argentina.

Mac Allister was the first player through the door as part of the Reds' midfield rebuild this summer, signing from Brighton for a reported £35 million.

The 26-year-old has had a mixed start to life in Merseyside, after being shown a straight red card in just his second game for the club against Bournemouth.

While he was also guilty of giving the ball away in the lead-up to Brighton's opening goal against Liverpool during their 2-2 draw at the Amex.

However, Mac Allister was back to his very best for Argentina on Thursday, as he bossed the midfield against Paraguay, helping his country to a 1-0 win.

Nicolas Otamendi's strike in the 3rd minute proved to be the only goal of the game as the reigning World Cup champions continued their 100% success rate in qualifying for the 2026 tournament.

Meanwhile, Mac Allister had his very own highlights reel, displaying his range of passing and brilliant quick feet. You can watch a compilation of his performance below.

But it was one particular moment that has Liverpool fans wondering if they are playing him in the wrong position.

Mac Allister is currently deployed as a No. 6 by Jurgen Klopp as part of a three-man midfield.

Although supporters have speculated if he would be better utilised further forward in a more attacking role after seeing a 'Lionel Messi esque' piece of skill on the edge of the area.

After his first time shot was deflected back into his path, Mac Allister showed exceptional quick feet to evade the challenges of five or six Paraguay players before tumbling to the turf.

Reacting to the clip on social media, one user wrote: "FREE HIM FROM THE 6."

While another remarked: "Yes please free him and his number is 10 @LFC."

"Allow a dragon be a dragon stop taming our lethal players," a third wrote. "Let Alexis play CAM and [Trent] Alexander-Arnold play CM no RB cover ups and szobo [Dominik Szoboszlai] play his CM to choke the midfield please."

Where do you think Mac Allister should play for Liverpool? Let us know in the comments.
