Liverpool Accused of 'Trolling' Newcastle in New Alexander Isak Video

Isak has been meeting his new Liverpool team-mates this week.

Liverpool have been accused of 'trolling' Newcastle over their signing of Alexander Isak in a new social media video.

The Reds completed a £125 million deal to sign Isak from Newcastle on deadline day after a protracted transfer saga.

Isak went 'on strike' from Newcastle and was unavailable for their opening Premier League matches after the Magpies turned down an initial £110 million bid from Liverpool.

The Swede took to Instagram to accuse his now former club of 'breaking promises', with the Daily Mail's Craig Hope reporting that this partly related to Newcastle's failure to offer him a new contract last summer.

Isak's deal at St James' Park had two years left to run, but Newcastle eventually decided to sell the striker on deadline day instead of being faced with the potential prospect of the 25-year-old sitting in the stands until at least January.

Newcastle sealed a club-record move for Nick Woltemade, as well as a last-gasp deadline day deal for Brentford's Yoane Wissa.

Isak will likely play little part for Liverpool in his opening weeks at the club, with the Swede having not started a competitive fixture for four months nor had a full pre-season with Newcastle.

On Friday, the Reds posted a clip on social media of Isak meeting his new team-mates, having been on international duty with Sweden since his September 1 arrival.

In one clip, which showed him embracing captain Virgil van Dijk, fans noticed the choice of music in the background.

'Rein Me In', a song by North Shields-born artist Sam Fender - who is a huge Newcastle fan - was playing over the loudspeakers.

Fender twice hosted concerts at St James' Park in 2023, selling a combined 100,000 tickets.

And he returned for three gigs earlier this year, in June - which included changing the lyrics to his hit single 'Pretty Green Eyes' to 'He's From Blyth' after spotting Blyth-born Newcastle star Dan Burn in the crowd on night one.

That has led to Reds fans being convinced that the song in their video was played on purpose.

One wrote: "Sam Fender playing in the background is a great bit."

A second said: "Sam Fender playing in the back just to rub it in."

And a third added: "Liverpool are taking the p**s, that's a Sam Fender song in the background."

While a fourth conceded: "Tbf top s**thousery."
