Alexander Isak's agent spoke out about his potential departure from Newcastle United ahead of his rumoured trip to Anfield.

On Monday, Liverpool competed in their final pre-season friendly matches as they faced Spanish side Athletic Club in back-to-back games at home.

Several of the club's biggest players and new signings were in action across the two games, with the hosts coming away with a win on both occasions.

While a lot of the focus was on the player's performances ahead of the FA Community Shield final against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace this weekend, some fans were seriously excited as reports top target Isak's agent was in attendance.

Although the reports surrounding Isak's representative Gonzalo Gaitan attending the friendly matches against Athletic Club remain unconfirmed, it comes amid several other reports that the striker's move to Liverpool is getting closer.

Both Liverpool and Isak view his arrival as a dream move which would involved Newcaslte taking home a British record fee of at least £130million.

The Sweden international has informed Newcastle that he wants the move and went so far as to drop out of the club's pre-season tour in Asia this summer.

But when considering comments made by Gaitan earlier in the summer, it comes as no surprise that Isak is so eager to complete a move to the Premier League champions as soon as possible.

Before Liverpool established themselves as the favourites to secure Isak's signature, several clubs from acrorss the world were interested, including Arsenal and several in the Saudi Pro League.

Speaking about Isak's future to Saudi Arabian newspaper Arriyadiyah, Gaitan said: "We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player.

"Without revealing any details regarding whether Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle."

But before Liverpool can complete a deal for Isak, Newcastle need to bring in a replacement for their star player, with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko their ideal target.

After their first bid was rejected, the Magpies submitted an improved bid for the Slovenian striker on Monday which is believed to be worth £69.7m (€80m), plus add-ons.
