Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Kai Havertz at Arsenal.

During the summer transfer window, Havertz left Chelsea to join Arsenal in a deal worth a reported fee of £65 million.

However, it has been a tough start for the German after failing to score or assist so far for the Gunners.

Over the last few weeks, there have been questions about whether Havertz will have a future with Arsenal.

Now, transfer specialist Romano has revealed what he has heard about Arsenal and Havertz.

He wrote for Caught Offside: “Of course, it was not an easy beginning of the season for the player, but the message coming from the club and the coaching staff, those close to Mikel Arteta and those close to the board, is that they will protect Kai Havertz.

“Arsenal were fantastic last season so for Havertz to adapt to new tactics, new methods and a new way of playing was not completely easy, but the club are absolutely confident and trust him. They paid big money because they believe that he’s an important player with skill and good potential to show in the future. Of course, as I mentioned, not an easy August or September for Kai Havertz but the Gunners will keep going with him. No drama, no panic and they are prepared to fight together.”

Earlier in the month, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta launched a public defence of Havertz.

He said: “I tell you what I feel about him, I love him. I see his qualities every day in training, his work-rate is excellent. The stats are what is missing at the moment - to put the ball in the net.

“It's difficult to ask our supporters more, but my feeling is: 'give him love, and we will get the best out of him’.”

Arteta added: “But we have some very, very beautiful examples in the last few years with players that we have given support and love, and they have felt that and just exploded. He has got a lot to give us.”
