Jermaine Jenas looks set to lose his huge BBC salary following reports he's been sacked due to 'inappropriate behaviour'.

The BBC announced on Thursday that former England and Tottenham star Jenas had been axed by the corporation following complaints about his workplace conduct.

The 41-year-old, who presented The One Show and appeared on Match of the Day, has been taken off both programmes following an internal investigation into his behaviour.

"We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting line up," a BBC spokesperson said.

The Sun claim it is unlikely that Jenas will return to work on the BBC.

It is also claimed that sources close to the footballer insist he is 'not happy' with the BBC's decision.

SPORTbible has contacted Jenas' representatives for comment.

Jenas was widely regarded as Gary Lineker's natural successor as Match of the Day presenter, after helping to cover this summer's Euros in Germany.

The Sun claim his departure comes as a 'blow' to BBC executives, who had lined Jenas up as a potential replacement for Lineker when the latter's contract expires in 2025.

Jenas is now set to lose his massive BBC salary, with the former footballer paid an annual salary of between £190,000 and £194,999 according to official figures published by the organisation last year.

With his chances of replacing former England striker Lineker now seemingly over, Jenas misses out on the opportunity to become one of the highest-paid employees at the BBC.

Lineker is currently the corporation's top earner on an annual salary of £1.35m, followed by Radio 2 breakfast host Zoe Ball with £950,000.

Despite his departure from the BBC, Jenas looks set to continue working in sports broadcasting.

Just minutes after the news of his sacking broke, the former Spurs man hosted a live show on talkSPORT.

Jenas was on air for Thursday afternoon's talkSPORT Drive show alongside co-host, former Tottenham teammate Darren Bent.

Jenas is expected to retain his role as a presenter and pundit for TNT Sports, while he has also previously hosted prestigious awards ceremonies including The Best FIFA Football Awards in 2021.
