One fan has spotted what Ivan Toney did before scoring for Brentford against Nottingham Forest - and it's got people talking.

The 27-year-old marked his comeback game following an eight-month ban for breaching FA betting rules with a goal at the Gtech Community Stadium.

From 20 yards, Toney curled his right-footed free kick expertly around the Forest wall and into the bottom right corner, wrong-footing goalkeeper Matt Turner in the process.

It was an emotional moment for the striker, who hadn't played a competitive game for Brentford since May 6 before he lined up for Thomas Frank's side as captain on Saturday evening.

His return provided much-needed impetus for the Bees, who had lost all five of their most recent Premier League games.

It was the nightmare start for Brentford as Danilo put Forest ahead on three minutes, but Toney's strike fired up the crowd in west London.

Ben Mee put Brentford ahead on 59 minutes, before Chris Wood equalised six minutes later for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

Neal Maupay then scored his third goal in three games with a superb chest and volley into the bottom corner.

But most of the headlines went to Toney for his superb free kick, with Thomas Frank hoping his return will kickstart Brentford's season.

And one fan spotted a moment prior to the 27-year-old's free kick that has certainly generated plenty of discussion on social media.

Upon seeing the position of Forest's defensive wall before the set piece was taken, Toney took the chance to move the ball a foot to his right in order to get a better angle of the goal.

Toney then shifted part of the vanishing spray to cover the new position of the ball, before going on to line up his shot.

Replays showed that he did so with the referee close by, who clearly didn't spot any infringement before the Brentford forward took the free kick, while there appeared to be no protestations from Forest players either.

Fans took to Twitter to have their say, with one writing: "That's the wall and keeper's fault for not calling it out."

Another said: "Poor from Turner. How didn't he notice that when checking the position of the wall?!"

A third added: "Clever from Toney. Really poor from everyone at Forest, and the officials to not notice."

A fourth exclaimed: "This is what VAR should be used for."
