Ivan Toney has scored on his return to the Brentford team for the first time in over eight months - and paid tribute to a family member in his celebration.

Toney is back in the Brentford team after his eight-month ban for betting breaches ended earlier this week.

And the striker has marked his return by scoring inside 20 minutes to level the scores at 1-1 inside the Gtech Community Stadium.

Toney's goal came courtesy of a 20-yard free kick, which he fired around the Forest wall and into the bottom corner, leaving goalkeeper Matt Turner wrongfooted.

In celebration, Toney was handed a shirt by a member of the Brentford dugout which read: "For you, Uncle Brian."

The 27-year-old hadn't played a competitive game of football since the Bees' 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on May 6 last year.

He was awarded an eight-month ban for breaching FA betting rules following that game, and wasn't even allowed to train with the first team during the early stages of his ban.

Toney has since stepped up his match fitness by playing behind-closed-doors friendlies with Brentford's B team.

Speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of his comeback, Toney admitted: "At the time, I guess I accepted it [the ban]. Those are the kind of things you accept and move forward and sort things out, which I did, and that's all cleared now, so my main focus is steering away from that kind of rubbish and focus on playing well for the team and doing what I do best, which is concentrate on scoring goals and playing well.

"I want to own it and get on with it. I've done it. The punishment is done.

"It is what it is. You can't change what's done. What's done is done. You can never change something when the damage is done."

He has already got back to doing exactly what he does best - scoring goals.
