Fans think they know what Scott McTominay said to a member of the Hampden Park crowd after scoring what Scotland manager Steve Clarke described as "the best overhead kick I've ever seen".

Scotland secured their place in the World Cup finals for the first time since 1998 after recording a dramatic 4-2 win over Denmark.

At one stage, it looked like the Danes would secure automatic qualification when Manchester United's Patrick Dorgu scored a late goal to make it 2-2.

But in the third minute of stoppage time, Kieran Tierney restored Scotland's lead with a wonderful strike before another unlikely goalscorer, Kenny McLean, scored from the halfway line to make it 4-2.

It was an evening full of iconic moments. In fact, Scott McTominay's magnificent overhead kick was somewhat overshadowed by what happened in the dying stages of Tuesday's game in Glasgow.

With just three minutes on the clock, McTominay performed a Cristiano Ronaldo-esque leap before swinging his right boot at a Ben Doak cross to score arguably the best goal of his career to date.

Moments later, the Napoli midfielder sprinted over to the Hampden Park crowd to celebrate before appearing to send a message to somebody in attendance. Many fans think he said, "Where's my mum?" before blowing a kiss into the crowd.

Here's how fans on social media reacted to the scenes.

One wrote: "'Where's my mum?'", McTominay said. And there's the real reward in football. Parents sacrifice to give their child a better life, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Child scores a once-in-a-lifetime goal for his country & seeks out the parents to celebrate. The sacrifice rewarded."

A second commented: "Do you know the most beautiful thing about this goal? He runs to the crowd searching and says 'Where’s my Mum?’ Belter."

A third said: "Bloody hell. Too early to be chopping onions," and a fourth wrote: "Told everyone to calm down and then asked 'Where’s my mum?' I love him man."

A fifth added: "And then goes looking for his mam in the crowd. 'Where’s my mum?!' What a magnificent lad."

Man Utd's feelings on bringing Scott McTominay back to club

United would be open to re-signing McTominay, according to a new report.

In fact, several clubs, including Newcastle and Tottenham, are interested in the Scotland international, while United 'would have him back' at Old Trafford following his departure in 2024, according to Caught Offside.

The report says: "There is concrete interest in Scott McTominay. Manchester United would have him back, and keep an eye on Newcastle and Tottenham. Barcelona also view him as someone who could be a good fit for their midfield.”
