England players Dan Burn and Morgan Rogers have offered hope that midfielder Jordan Henderson could still play a part in the World Cup despite breaking his wrist at the Azteca on Sunday.
Henderson was injured as the England squad celebrated their extraordinary 3-2 win over co-hosts Mexico, during which they had to overcome the altitude of Mexico City, an hour-long weather delay, El Tri's home advantage and a red card for right-back Jarell Quansah.
The 36-year-old, who has played six minutes at the World Cup, tumbled over a digital advertising board at the iconic stadium and ended up having surgery to repair his fractured arm.
With a maximum of three matches remaining over the next 10 days, Henderson has next to no chance of playing again in the competition.

But two of his teammates have refused to rule him out, making the surprising claim that the Brentford man could yet feature before the end of England's World Cup campaign.
"I think hopefully he can still be involved with us going for the rest of the tournament," said Villa star Rogers while speaking to the media at the squad's training base in Kansas City.
"He's not going to rule himself out... I think the belief he's got in his own body and his ability and his confidence and the way he is and what he represents as a person is massive to our group and he's everything really. He's the heartbeat of the group."
Newcastle United defender Burn, who came on as a substitute to help England deal with an aerial bombardment as Mexico threw everything they had at the 10 men in search of an equaliser, has cheekily claimed responsibility for Henderson's injury.
"I think I killed him a bit because I made it look really easy when I jumped over," said Burn.
"I just heard the noise behind us straight away, and you know with Hendo, if he doesn't get up, there's something wrong.
"He's had his op now, and hopefully they're still up for him to play in the tournament."

England are on a high ahead of the World Cup quarter-finals
Thomas Tuchel and the Three Lions will take on Norway in the last eight. France and Morocco meet in the first quarter-final on Thursday, with England scheduled to play in Miami on Saturday.
Erling Haaland has scored seven goals in his first World Cup, one fewer than Golden Boot race leader Lionel Messi, but England know the Norway striker as well as anyone.
After some lacklustre performances, England have also been boosted by their rousing win at the Azteca.
Norway knocked Brazil out in the round of 16 and aren't to be taken lightly, but there is a renewed sense of optimism around England's hopes.
