The World Cup round of 16 clash between England and Mexico is set to kick-off at 6pm local time, which would see fans in the United Kingdom glued to their screens or radios at 1am.
However, there is no guarantee that it will kick off at this time due to the weather warnings that have been given ahead of the clash.
Both Mexico and the Three Lions were not completely sure what time kick-off would be, as reports suggested that it could be moved six hours forward or pushed back a few hours to avoid the severe weather warnings that have been given to Mexico City that coincide with when the action is taking place between the two teams.
Finally, after several hours of confusion, FIFA confirmed that the clash would be taking place at the original time.

Update- Revised percentages after weather update from “blanket risk” to “scattered”
— Seb Carmichael-Brown (@sebcbrown4) July 5, 2026
•On-time 1am BST kick-off: 40% (was 35%)
•Delayed 30–75 mins: 35% (unchanged, still the modal outcome, the Ecuador precedent was exactly 1hr)
•Delayed 1–2 hrs: 18% (was 20%)
•Delayed 2 hrs+:…
It is now being reported that there are several times the England game could kick off, with the likelihood of it taking place at the original time being 40%.
The next most likely scenario, as happened with the Ecuador match, is that it could be delayed for at least 30 minutes to 75, this being due to the weather.
Meanwhile, the chances that it is delayed between an hour and two hours are currently sitting at 18%, with it being only 5% for a delay of over two hours.
Ultimately, it looks like FIFA will ensure that there is no postponement of the match to ensure the schedule of the World Cup is not interrupted, with a postponement being viewed as a 2% chance.
There is a belief being held that once the match kicks off, there will not be a suspension of play, and it will probably finish uninterrupted.

England’s disrupted preparation for their clash with Mexico
Preparation for this clash with Mexico has not been ideal for Thomas Tuchel’s side over the past few days.
To begin with, there were concerns raised about the accommodation being laid siege upon by Mexican fans overnight to ensure the English side did not get a required eight hours of sleep, with supporters expected to land outside the hotel playing instruments and tooting horns well into the late hours of the morning.
It was a trick used by fans ahead of the Ecuador match, with the South American side being well beaten in their clash with Mexico; whether this was due to the supporters or the fact Javier Aguirre’s side just outclassed them remains to be seen.

There has also been a lack of clarity on when the game would kick off over the past few days due to the weather, with it being thought that the game could have been moved forward six hours and now there is a possibility it could be delayed.
Add this to the concerns around the England team being able to deal with the altitude in this clash, which could have a serious impact on whether Tuchel’s men progress to the quarter final of the competition.
At least the Three Lions can count themselves lucky that they have equipment to use in preparation for this game after they had seen it stolen earlier in the tournament as they made their way from Florida to Kansas City.
