England Blocked From Drawing Three Nations at World Cup

England will avoid three of countries at the World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is fast approaching, with fans across England desperate to see The Three Lions finally bring football home next summer.

Thomas Tuchel’s side ensured they would be in the tournament by recording eight wins from eight in the UEFA World Cup Qualifiers to finish top of Group K, ten points clear of second-place side Albania.

The World Cup is set to get underway in Canada, the USA, and Mexico on June 11, with the final scheduled to be played on July 19.

However, before the competition can get underway, the draw for the group stages will take place.

There will be 48 teams at next year’s World Cup for the first time ever, giving more countries than ever the chance to test themselves on the grandest stage.

Some of the best teams in world football will be included in the draw, including the top four teams in the FIFA rankings as things stand: Spain (1), Argentina (2), France (3), and England (4).

However, due to a new system that has been introduced ahead of the 2026 World Cup knockout stages, the four sides will be prevented from meeting each other in the early stages of the tournament.

The rule change means that Spain, Argentina, France, and England will be the four seeded teams.

As a result, each of the four countries will be placed in different quadrants during the knockout stages of the competition.

That is good news for England.

They will now avoid defending World Cup champions Argentina and Spain, who beat them in the final of UEFA Euro 2024, until the semi-final stage of the World Cup.

On top of that, The Three Lions will also be unable to face France until the final.

France knocked England out of the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

The draw for the 2026 World Cup will be held on December 5 in Washington DC at 5pm GMT.

Scotland will also be included in the draw after their remarkable 4-2 win against Denmark in their final qualifier saw them finish top of their group.

England are in Pot 1 of the draw, while Scotland are in Pot 3.
