Fans have been reacting on social media after seeing what Mexican side Monterrey did against Inter Milan in the FIFA Club World Cup.

On Tuesday night, Monterrey took on Italian Serie A giants Inter at the Rose Bowl in California as the pair began their bids to win the Club World Cup.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Real Madrid and Spain legend Sergio Ramos giving the Mexican side the lead before Lautaro Martinez scored the equaliser in the 42nd minute.

During the match, Monterrey stunned fans when they decided to deploy a never-before-seen tactic.

After Inter were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box, the Monterrey players opted against setting up a traditional wall.

Instead, they deployed a double wall made up of four players in each, leaving a considerable gap in the middle to help the goalkeeper see the ball.

Although it was a wild tactic, it worked out well as Inter failed to score from the free-kick.

However, fans were not too sure as they reacted on social media.

One fan said: "Very good wall."

Another tweeted: "Just pass it to the guy on the left I mean there are no players left that can defend him."

A third fan added: "It worked tbf, interesting"

Someone else wrote: "Woke nonsense."

A fifth commented: "Don't let Arteta see this."

Another fan said: "Lmao just look at the keeper. Stands no chance if that ball goes over any of the walls."

Speaking after scoring against Inter, Ramos said: "Serie A is a league that I have always followed and admired thanks to Sacchi’s Milan and then Paolo Maldini’s.

"I was lucky enough to play against great Italian players, Buffon, Pirlo and many others. It has always been a pleasure to face Italian teams, for their history and for what they give to world football."

Monterrey will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Argentine club River Plate.

After that, they will face Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds on Wednesday night.
