Wild FPL theory warns players against using GW3 Wildcard or Triple Captain due to unusual reason

Fantasy Premier League managers have been warned against using their wildcards or triple captain chips this week for a bizarre reason.

After what was one of the highest scoring gameweeks in fantasy football history, many fantasy Premier League managers are eager to once again bring in 100+ points.

With that in mind, plenty of managers have already eyed up Gameweek 3 as the perfect opportunity to use one of their chips, but the weather may have something to say about that.

Why El Nino could cause Premier League postponements

Following Bruno Fernandes' monster haul against Ipswich Town last weekend, managers who captained Erling Haaland will no doubt be eager to get one back as he faces Coventry City at the Etihad this week.

Of course, City's star man at home against a team sitting 17th in the league having conceded four goals in back-to-back loses on their return to the top-flight is about as good of a fixture as you can get.

This has got many fans activating the triple captain chip on Haaland this week, with a goal or two able to match or surpass Fernandes' haul last week.

Similarly, many managers who had a bad start or those looking to target fixtures swings for clubs like Chelsea may use their wildcards, allowing them to make unlimited transfers for free, to completely revamp their teams.

But El Nino, a natural climate pattern caused by unusually warm ocean water, could mess these plans up with a series of storms expected to arrive in the UK over the coming months.

As pointed out by Fpl Tactician on social media, it remains very possible that, at some point this season, the extreme weather caused by El Nino could lead to matches being postponed.

If this were the case, it could open up the possibility of double gameweeks, in which a team plays twice allowing two opportunities for hauls, popping up before every manager has their chips refreshed following Gameweek 19.

Posting on X, he wrote: "Don’t call yourself unlucky if you play Triple Captain this week and DGWs emerge for Chelsea(who aren’t in Europe) before Christmas.

"Games will be called off this Autumn because of storms."

These double gameweeks are typically the best time to play chips, but normally only show up in the latter half of the season, meaning managers are normally safe to get their chips out of the way early in the season if they wish.

However, it is worth noting that any postponed fixture involving a team set to compete in a European competition would likely have to take place after the Gameweek 19 deadline, as their fixture calendar would already be too busy.

Should you play your FPL chips in Gameweek three?

So, all things considered, the question many managers may now be asking is if gameweek three is still a good time to play one of your chips?

In short, yes.

While a double gameweek this side of Gameweek 19 absolutely is possible and, should it happen for a time like Chelsea, it would definitely be a better time to use your chips than right now.

But, are you really going to hold back on the chance that there happens to be weather that's bad enough to cause postponements, on a matchday involving a non-European team just in case this postponement happens and the rearranged fixture sets up a good double gameweek on this side of Gameweek 19?

If you do and it pays off, fair play, but an in-form Haaland in one of the best fixtures of the season seems like as good a chance as any to use a triple captain chip, while targeting City players overall on a free hit or wildcard, should your team need it.
