Fans are shocked at the group of teams who could make it to the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

After a series of shock results on Wednesday night, a team outside ranked 25 or lower in the FIFA rankings has a historic chance to reach the Euro 2024 semi-finals.

Georgia's upset victory over Portugal and Turkey's defeat of Czechia meant that both sides made it through to the round of 16 alongside group winners Portugal.

Underdogs Georgia will face another uphill battle in the round of 16 against Spain, the only team to win all of their group games.

Meanwhile Turkey will clash with Austria, with Romania and The Netherlands their potential opponents in the quarter finals.

This means that at least one of 25th ranked Austria, Turkey(42nd) and Romania (47th) will reach the quarter finals of the tournament and have a chance to make history if they can go further in the tournament.

Of these teams, only Turkey have ever reached the semi-finals and none have ever reached the final.

Romania will face The Netherlands at 5pm BST on Tuesday, with Austria facing Turkey at 8pm.

The winners will face each other on the 6th July, with the victors of that fixture playing one of England, Slovakia, Switzerland and Italy in the semi-final.

While The Netherlands will be the favourites of these teams to reach the semi-final, their Group D rivals Austria could produce the upset of the tournament by progressing to the penultimate stage of the tournament.

Austria, who are 25th in the FIFA men's rankings, have been one of the standout performers of Euro 2024 as they have impressed under the leadership of former Manchester United manager Ralf Ragnick.

They qualified for the knockouts on top of Group D, ahead of France and The Netherlands.

With victories over The Netherlands and Poland, Austria finished the group stage with six points.

Reacting to the potential semi-finalists on X, one fan wrote: "Only Austria deserves it. Hats off to Ragnick. Wasn’t familiar with his game."

While another disagreed, simply writing: "Turkey for me."
