A former Premier League star has ‘offered his services’ to David Moyes after he was reappointed as Everton manager following Sean Dyche’s exit on Thursday.

Moyes, 61, previously managed the Toffees between 2002 and 2013 before he left for Manchester United following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

Since then, he has managed Real Sociedad, Sunderland, before two stints at West Ham, leading them to a 2022/23 Europa Conference League triumph, which was Moyes’ first-ever major trophy win as a manager.

On Saturday morning, Everton posted an official statement on their website, confirming the appointment of Moyes.

“Everton Football Club is delighted to welcome back David Moyes as their new Manager, effective immediately," read the statement.

“David is widely recognised as one of the Premier League’s most experienced and accomplished managers, having led Everton for more than 500 matches from 2002 to 2013.

“As a driving force behind taking Everton to the 2009 FA Cup Final and four European campaigns, he has also managed Manchester United and West Ham United, where he notably won the UEFA Europa Conference League.”

Moyes voiced his excitement at returning to the first Premier League side he managed.

“It’s great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club," said Moyes.

“I’m excited to be working with The Friedkin Group and I am looking forward to helping them rebuild the club.

“Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team.”

Now, two of Moyes’ former Everton players from his first stint in charge have had their say.

Victor Anichebe was handed his senior debut as a 17-year-old by the Scot during an FA Cup tie against Chelsea in 2006 and posted to Instagram giving his thoughts.

“Stability and values of what it means to play for Everton is what the club needs now," he wrote.

“Welcome back gaffer. Club has changed massively so won’t be easy, support is needed. Good luck gaffer.”

But another former Everton fan favourite took it one step further, even jokingly offering his services to his former manager.

“Got my boots, haha," quipped Steven Pienaar.

Pienaar, 42, made 229 appearances for the Toffees in two spells at the Merseyside outfit.

He was signed by Moyes from Borussia Dortmund in 2008 and formed a formidable partnership with Leighton Baines on Everton's left-hand side.

Of course, his offer was presumably a joke given the fact he has been retired since 2018.
