Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly more likely to retire from international football than not following his fallout with Jorge Jesus, according to his sister.
After being left on the bench for their 2-1 Nations League win over Norway, Ronaldo stormed out of the Portugal camp, later releasing a 1,740-word statement criticising the 'broken promises' manager Jesus had made.
Since then, Ronaldo has suggested that he would be open to accepting punishment before returning to the Portugal team, but his sister has suggested that this will not be the case and his time on the international stage may now be over.

Cristiano Ronaldo 'likely' to never play for Portugal again
Following Ronaldo's stunning statement, the future of his international career has been called into question, with his relationship with Jesus clearly not in a good way.

After accusing Jesus of an "absolute breach of trust", Ronaldo said that he would accept any punishment but would not be retiring.
"After my suspension period ends, I will be available, as I always have been, to compete and win with our national team," Ronaldo wrote.
Jesus later said that the door was still open for Ronaldo to return, but speaking at a book launch event in Lisbon, which Jesus actually attended, Ronaldo's sister suggested that the Portugal legend likely wouldn't be playing for his country ever again.
"It's more likely a no than a yes," Elma Aveiro said.
"I think both [Cristiano and Jorge Jesus] are hurt; it was a situation they experienced, not me, I'm speaking for my brother.
"I think it's a situation that's stalled, we'll see what happens."
When asked if she thinks Ronaldo and Jesus could reconcile, she added: "I don't know, it's very complicated. When we're betrayed, it's very difficult to go back to normal.
"My feeling is one of sadness because the Portuguese people unfortunately forget what has already been done and think that things should be done differently now.
"I'm speechless, it's very difficult to see my brother go through this. He is one of the people who least deserve this."
The comments come after Ronaldo's mum, Dolores Aveiro, said that Portugal 'are not valuing her son'.
She said: "He could have left through the front door and instead he left through the back door."
Cristiano Ronaldo punishment confirmed as Portugal FA release statement
As it stands, Ronaldo's final punishment has not been decided, but a recent statement from the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has revealed he has has been provisionally suspended after disciplinary proceedings were opened.
"Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against Cristiano Ronaldo pursuant to a decision by the Non-Professional Section dated October 9, 2026, aimed at determining whether the events reported on October 7, 2026, warrant disciplinary action," the FPF wrote in a statement.
"Without prejudice to the automatic preventive suspension to which he was subject prior to the initiation of proceedings, a non-automatic preventive suspension of the player was ordered, and the case was designated as urgent.
"The case was referred to the FPF Disciplinary Investigation Committee on October 10, 2026, with the proceedings remaining confidential until the conclusion of the investigation."
Ronaldo has 234 appearances for the Portugal national team and has scored 146 goals.
