Grim reason why I'm A Celeb star Coleen Rooney was spotted wearing red socks in first episode of new series

I'm A Celebrity Get me Out of Here star Coleen Rooney was among the contestants sporting red socks on the first episode of the new series for a very good reason.

A slew of celebrities have travelled down under to the jungle for another series of the ITV show, presented by Ant and Dec. It's a star-studded line-up this time around led by Coleen, wife of Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney.

Coleen is said to be the joint-highest-paid contestant in the show's history, earning a reported £1.5 million for appearing.

In the launch of the new series on Sunday night, the 38-year-old made a huge impression on her new campmates by starting a fire as soon as she arrived alongside BBC Radio 1 presenter Dean McCullough, who already called her 'Wagatha Christie' in reference to the well-documented 2022 trial with Jamie Vardy's wife and former contestant Rebekah.

She also encountered some creepy crawlies in a first challenge, putting her hands in with cockroaches in an attempt to find keys to fit a lock. Viewers may have noticed that Coleen, along with fellow contestants wore bright red socks while in camp.

But it is not for a fashion statement, it turns out there is a reason which makes perfect sense. Bob McCarron, a long-time medic on the show, told Woman’s Own, as per The Mirror, that while in the jungle, contestants are likely to be bitten by all sorts of insects such as leeches, which can leave blood stains.

He claimed the red socks are used in an attempt to hide blood splatters from the many blood sucking critters in their vicinity, as well as also hide any cuts, bruises or marks from those watching on the television.

Coleen talked about her first kiss with husband Wayne when they were youngsters and is expected to share more details about their relationship.

While his other half is in the jungle, Plymouth Argyle boss Rooney has been left with a list of instructions in regards to their four children, Kai, 13, Klay, 10, Kit, seven, and Cass, five.
