Conference League winners Chelsea won't play in the UEFA Super Cup despite winning the European trophy and here's why.

Chelsea came from behind to beat Real Betis 4-1 in the Conference League final.

Betis opened the scoring in Wroclaw but Chelsea hit back with a scintillating second-half performance, scoring four unanswered goals.

Enzo Fernandez equalised before Nicolas Jackson put his side ahead. Both goals were created by Cole Palmer, who gave a hilarious post-match interview following his Man of the Match showing.

Jadon Sancho, who got fans talking following his gesture after the final whistle, added a third before Moises Caicedo completed the scoring in stoppage time.

The Blues entered the record books following their Conference League triumph.

They became the first side to win all five of UEFA's men's senior club competitions, having already claimed the Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and the now defunct Cup Winners' Cup.

But Chelsea won't be able to add another Super Cup to their trophy cabinet despite winning the Conference League.

Why Chelsea won't play in the Super Cup

Chelsea have won the Super Cup on two occasions. Their most recent success came in 2021 following their Champions League triumph over Manchester City in the 2020/21 season.

But they won't compete in the Super Cup this year because the European club season's curtain-raiser is only open to the champions of UEFA's top two men's club competitions.

As the continent's third-third competition, the Conference League doesn't get a berth.

The 2025 Super Cup will be contested between Europa League winners Tottenham and the winner of Saturday's Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain vs. Inter Milan.

What do Chelsea get for winning the Conference League

Chelsea will receive a total of £5.9 million for winning the Conference League, which is what Manchester United earned for finishing runners-up in this season's Europa League final.

Winning the Conference League also earns you a spot in the Europa League for the following season.

But the West London outfit are already in the Champions League after finishing fourth in the Premier League, meaning their spot in the Europa League won't be taken up.
