Sports presenter Richard Keys has made a suggestion for who should be Enzo Maresca's successor as Chelsea boss.

The Stamford Bridge club are now on the hunt for a new boss after it was confirmed that the West London outfit and the Italian have today parted company by mutual consent.

Maresca, 45, became Chelsea boss in the summer of 2024 after he led Leicester City back to the Premier League by winning the Championship title at first time of asking.

Last season, the Italian led Chelsea to a fourth-placed finish to qualify for the Champions League, while also leading them to silverware in the form of the UEFA Conference League and also the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal, and face a fight on their hands to secure Champions League football again next season.

Maresca's departure was confirmed today by Chelsea with a blunt four paragraph statement on its website.

The statement read: "Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.

"During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club.

"With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.

"We wish Enzo well for the future."

Maresca's final game in charge of Chelsea proved to be a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge against Bournemouth, with the club's first game without him at the helm this Sunday away to Manchester City.

Among those tipped by the bookmakers to succeed Maresca in the Stamford Bridge dugout include former Barcelona boss Xavi, Liam Rosenior and Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner.

Former Sky Sports presenter Keys, who is now a senior football anchor for beIN Sports, has now given his view on social media for who he feels ought to be Maresca's successor, and he believes legendary former Chelsea defender John Terry ought to be given a chance at Stamford Bridge.

He wrote: "If I’m a Chelsea fan I want to see JT given a go.

"He’s a Chelsea man to the core - has served time elsewhere & there’s no reason he can’t do what Lampard is doing at Coventry - with better tools."

Aside from a loan spell at Nottingham Forest and his final season in football at Aston Villa, Terry spent his whole career at Chelsea, captaining the club to some of its finest achievements.

Terry won five Premier League titles, a quintet of FA Cups, three League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League.

Since hanging up his boots, Terry has had coaching roles at Villa and Leicester City under Dean Smith, and is currently a coach at the Chelsea Academy.
