Fans have been reacting on social media after seeing what a Chelsea fan did when Enzo Fernandez gave him his match-worn shorts.

On Monday night, Chelsea welcomed London rivals West Ham United to Stamford Bridge for the last fixture of the latest Premier League match week.

Enzo Maresca's men had to dig deep into their resources as they came from 1-0 down to clinch a vital victory.

Jarrod Bowen gave the visitors the lead before a goal from Pedro Neto and an own goal by Aaron Wan-Bissaka secured a 2-1 win for the Blues.

As a result, Chelsea climbed above Newcastle United and Manchester City into fourth place in the Premier League table.

After the final whistle, players usually would either swap shirts with opponents or throw them into the crowd for fans.

On Monday night, Chelsea midfielder Fernandez was seen taking his shorts off and handing them to a fan, but what the supporter did afterwards went viral.

After receiving the Argentine's match-worn shorts, the fan posed for a picture before appearing to sniff them.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: "This is why we have the internet, Classic."

Another tweeted: "Don't act like we wouldn't do the same."

A third fan added: "The beautiful game."

Someone else joked: "Funny. Fernandez dominate midfield during the 90 minutes and never gave the West Ham players a sniff.."

A fifth commented: "Can't do anything anymore without it being splashed all over the internet, not even sniff another man's used shorts in front of 40,000 people. Game's gone."

Speaking after the match, Blues boss Maresca said: "The important thing is the performance. We completely deserved to win the game

"I was very happy, especially because I think tonight’s game was the toughest game in terms of mentally because in this moment, when teams come here and they just sit back and wait for our mistake, there is no space to attack, you need to be patient."

Chelsea will be back in action this weekend when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
