Chelsea fans have turned on ONE player after a damning clip from their crushing defeat at Newcastle United emerged online.

Chelsea were knocked out of the Carabao Cup following their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at St. James' Park on Wednesday.

Goals from Alexander Isak and Axel Disasi (own-goal) booked the Magpies' spot in the next round of the competition.

During the cup clash, Enzo Maresca cut a frustrated figure as he turned away in disgust following a moment involving one of his star players.

And on social media, people hit out at Joao Felix, who started last night's tie.

Felix had a chance to pull one back in the 75th minute but failed to convert his opportunity to the dismay of Chelsea supporters online.

One X user wrote: "Never seen an easier opportunity in football than this."

A second argued: "Felix is far better than Nkunku and Mudryk yesterday on the pitch."

A third added: "How’s it possible for a touch to be that bad."

A fourth defended: "Felix was by far our best player, hating on him over everyone else is mental."

Another said: "Completely forgot he was there again."

Felix played the entire game but was unable to inspire his side to the next round.

The Portuguese returned to Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window following his £42 million move from Atletico Madrid.

He's made nine appearances, scoring three goals so far this season, with most of his starts coming in cup competitions.

Despite Chelsea struggling in the attacking third, Maresca defended Felix and explained why he didn't call upon the services of Cole Palmer.

"No, no, no [there was not a reason why he didn’t bring Palmer on]. Simply because I think Joao [Felix] and Christo [Nkunku] were doing very good," he explained. "The reason why [we brought him] was in case we needed Cole, but Joao and Christo were doing well so there was no need to change."
