A former Chelsea wonderkid who was once labelled the most gifted player of his generation could be set to join his 14th club.

Over the years, the Stamford Bridge club have produced some fine talents through their academy.

The likes of Mason Mount, Declan Rice, Nathan Ake, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James have all played for Chelsea’s youth teams.

Whilst some players went on to play for the first team and other big clubs around Europe, things didn’t work out too well for Gael Kakuta, who was very highly rated when he was in Chelsea’s books.

Kakuta joined Chelsea as a 16-year-old from French side Lens.

According to The Sun, Blues scout at the time, Guy Hillion described the youngster as ‘the most gifted player of his generation’.

However, in 2009, when Kakuta earned his way to the first team, FIFA started investigating his transfer to Chelsea.

Eventually, it was found that the Blues illegally encouraged the player to break his contract with Lens and the club were given a two-window transfer ban.

Kakuta was banned from football for four months and was also handed a £665,000 fine.

After appealing the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, those punishments were overturned.

Between 2009 and 2015, Kakuta only managed to make 15 appearances for Chelsea as he also suffered a double leg break.

Kakuta left Chelsea for Sevilla in 2015, before joining Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune. He was then loaned to Deportivo La Coruna and Amiens.

In 2018, he left China and returned to Spain as he signed for Rayo Vallecano.

The winger then spent time with Amiens and Lens.

Now, at the age of 32, Kakuta could be set for a move to his 14th club.

According to French Football Weekly, the winger is attracting interest from La Liga side Granada.

Kakuta is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations with DR Congo.
