Chelsea fans have slammed Mauricio Pochettino over comments made after their defeat against Middlesbrough.

On Tuesday night, Chelsea travelled to the Riverside Stadium looking to get their Carabao Cup semi-final off to a flyer against Middlesbrough.

However, Boro managed to pull off an almightly shock as Hayden Hackney’s first-half goal was enough to seal a 1-0 win for Michael Carrick’s men.

The Championship side will have to dig deep in the second leg at Stamford Bridge if they are to seal their passage to the final.

After the match, Pochettino said: “The approach was good, we made some mistakes and gave them chances, they were really tough, a really deep block and playing in transition”

Reacting to Pochettino’s comments on social media, one fan said: “You played against this team and you say they were really tough. Really? That weak mentality is showing off on the entire team. Be gone please BYE.”

Another tweeted: “Has he ever taken any responsibility that it’s his fault.”

A third fan added: “Nice approach huh? Well, we'll see about that when you're sacked.”

Someone else wrote: “You can’t break Middlesbrough low block? What a useless man.”

A fifth commented: “Nah am done with him just sack him on that spot.”

Pochettino added: “It’s the first 90 minutes, the first half of the tie, and we are losing 1-0. In two weeks we are going to have the second leg and we have to be positive that we can win the game and go to the final. That is the objective.

“We were punished for the mistakes we made in the first half. We conceded a goal because it was our mistake. The few mistakes we made they punished us. We created enough chances to score and get a draw at the end. Over 90 minutes I thought we were the better side, but if you don’t score goals you cannot win. They scored and we didn’t. That explains perfectly what happened.”
