Thierry Henry linked with stunning return to management at Champions League club in his biggest role yet

Thierry Henry might not seem like the obvious choice of manager for a club with Champions League hopes but he's in the frame for one nonetheless, according to reports.

Arsenal legend Henry won the Champions League as a Barcelona player and is frequently linked with managerial jobs.

Despite lots of clubs having a reported interest in him since his retirement as a player, Henry has been unable to pin down the one role that allows him to prove his worth.

Henry has managed former club Monaco as well as the club then known as Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer, where he saw out his playing days with a degree of success with the New York Red Bulls.

Spells in charge of France's Under-21 and Olympic sides followed but Henry has otherwise been an assistant manager, a role he fulfilled twice with Belgium, and a popular football pundit.

Now, reports in France suggest that a return to club management could be on the cards.

German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig have apparently cast a little more than an admiring glance in the Frenchman's direction.

"RB Leipzig want Thierry Henry as their new manager this summer!" posted EuroFoot on X, formerly Twitter.

"First contacts have already been established. The German club want a manager who is a fan of offensive, attractive football and who trusts young talents, reports [French news outlet Le Journal du Dimanche]."

Leipzig, now considered the flagship of the Red Bull multi-club ownership group that once employed Henry as a player, debuted in the Champions League in 2017-18 and has participated in Europe's premier club competition every season since.

They failed to make the grade in this season's first running of the new Champions league Swiss-style format, finishing 32nd in the single league phase table after a dismal campaign.

Under head coach Marco Rose, Leipzig won just one of their eight matches.

Despite also falling short of expectations domestically, they're well positioned to qualify for the Champions League again, sitting in fourth place after 30 matches.

Rose was sacked last month and Leipzig officials have apparently identified Henry as a target to be his replacement.
