During CBS Sports’ coverage of the Champions League on Wednesday evening, fans were treated to a rather entertaining race between Jamie Carragher and iShowSpeed - and they were stunned by the results.

Carragher, 47, was not known for his speed during his playing career with Liverpool, but he certainly surprised fans on Wednesday night.

Speed – real name Darren Watkins Jr. – is a well-known internet personality and recently struck up a relationship with Thierry Henry when the pair both took part in the 'Match for Hope’ in Doha, Qatar last month.

The pair went back and forth before they took part in a race at the CBS studio.

“You're not beating me; stop saying you're beating me,” said Speed before the race.

“I don't know where you're getting these thoughts in your head. Why do you think you can beat somebody that has the name IShowSpeed?

“I raced Noah Lyles, the fastest person in the world. It was a close one.”

“'My tactic is just to be relaxed and run the race,” Carragher quipped. “The guy is too nervous.”

The former Liverpool defender got off to a fast start and tried to obstruct Speed’s path before the 20-year-old got to the finish line ahead of Carragher.

“You pushed me man!” said Speed. “You cheated and you still lost.”

“I'm disappointed, I thought I had him,” Carragher joked.

“The race was too long. I had a really good start.

“Listen, I've been cheating all my life. It's not going to stop now.”

And despite him losing the 40m dash, fans on social media were impressed by Carragher’s speed given the fact he is 27 years older than the internet sensation.

One said: “Typical Jamie Carragher to cheat but I loved to see him lose."

Another added: “I lowkey thought Carragher had it."

While a third explained: “That’s unreal Jamie came that close tbh lmao."

As fourth commented: "20-year-old almost loses to a 40-year-old."

Previously, Carragher seemingly didn't know who Speed was and asked Henry "Who is he?" during a CBS show back in February - but it's safe to say he certainly knows who the 20-year-old is after their antics on Wednesday evening.
