Aston Villa fan Prince William left fans shocked with what he said minutes before his side's Champions League quarter-final first leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

William has made the trip to Paris with his son, Prince George, and is in attendance for the Champions League match.

He watched on as Morgan Rogers put Villa in front on 35 minutes, sparking wild celebrations among the away end.

Before the match kicked off, the Prince spoke to TNT Sports duo Ally McCoist and Rio Ferdinand about the match, his team's recent form and his strict instructions from the royal family while in France.

His love for football is well-known and he has been an avid Aston Villa fan since childhood - but the extent and depth of his analysis of Villa and PSG surprised fans.

He said: "I'm pretty terrified. It's been a while coming, so it's a big game. Fourty-three years since this happened, a big European night for Villa.

"I think we all saw the Liverpool game, and PSG's intensity. In the first leg, they were unbelievable. They gave a lot of pressure, they pressed very high.

"I think for Unai [Emery] tonight and the team, it's about managing that press. Unai likes it when teams come on to them, play quite a high press. But obviously there's a limit. Can we get around the press and can we beat it?

"I'm thinking, long ball a little bit, and thinking how they are going to get around the high press. It's going to be a challenging night, and I'm looking forward to the tactics that Unai is going to have to employ."

Ferdinand interjected: "Can I just say something - do not go for a punditry job please, because I'd be out of the game! The way you just dissected that then... I'm gonna nick that for later on!"

And fans on Twitter agreed with the Manchester United legend, with one writing: "Can we get the Prince on more! Some serious ball knowledge."

A second said: "He was fantastic, great knowledge and insight."

A third added: "You've got to give to HRH - he knows his stuff..."

A fourth said: "Watching this it's clear to me Will is an actual, honest to god, genuine fan. Don't know why but I expected him to be a casual. Not at all, knows his football."

And another wrote: "He's just a regular, proper bloke who can seamlessly slot into any situation."

On PSG, His Royal Highness added: "I think not having Mbappe there, I think the PSG guys have talked about that quite a bit in the media, around not having the superstars maybe makes a bit more of a gel.

"They're a young team and I've been really impressed watching how they played against Liverpool.

"Vitinha, in the midfield, I've been really impressed by. Bear in mind he was at Wolves and he could hardly get a game, and now look at him.

"It just shows you, a couple of years, in development terms, massive. Given the opportunity, backed by the right manager, you can go places."

Sadly for the Prince, Desire Doue equalised for PSG shortly before half-time, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia making it 2-1 to the home side after the break with a stunning solo goal.
