Galatasaray 'Set for UEFA Punishment' Following Incident in Champions League

Galatasaray fans showed their support for Palestine ahead of their game against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.

UEFA could take action against Galatasaray after they displayed a banner showing support for Palestine in their Champions League fixture.

Galatasaray resumed their Champions League campaign on Wednesday following last month's big 1-0 win over Liverpool.

A first-half Victor Osimhen penalty was enough to beat Arne Slot's team in September.

In their game against Liverpool, Galatasaray showed their support for Palestine amid the conflict in Gaza.

Fans sitting behind the goal unfurled a series of banners with clear messages.

One banner read 'Humanity Lost Conscience in Gaza' with another stating ''#LetGazaBabiesLive' while a third read 'Palestinian Genocide' and another simply stated 'Free Palestine'.

Galatasaray fans continued to show their support for Palestine in their latest Champions League outing as they produced a tifo that read 'Stop The Genocide'.

A mosaic of the Palestine flag was also displayed before kick-off.

Under Article 16(2)(e) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, clubs are held responsible if their supporters display 'words, objects or any other means to transmit a provocative message that is not fit for a sports event, particularly provocative messages that are of a political, ideological, religious or offensive nature'.

This rule applies to banners, flags, chants or any other display.

As a result, UEFA could look to sanction the Turkish giants, which ranges from a fine, a partial stadium closure or even a full stadium ban.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, secured back-to-back wins in the Champions League following their victory over Bodo/Glimt.

Okan Buruk's team beat the Norwegian side 3-1 in Istanbul.

Osimhen opened the scoring in just the third minute and doubled his side's lead in the 33rd minute.

Yunus Akgun added Galatasaray's third on the hour mark, with Andreas Helmersen pulling one back in the 75th minute.

Galatasaray resume their European venture on November 5 when they travel to the Netherlands to face Ajax.
