Bayern Munich have set an unwanted Champions League record that may not be beaten after they were stunned by Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Going into the dying embers of the Champions League semi-final second leg, Bayern led 1-0 through Alphonso Davies' strike.

But then Real substitute Joselu struck twice in another late show at the Santiago Bernabeu to send Los Blancos into the final and set up a Wembley showdown with Borussia Dortmund on 1 June.

Bayern were furious over the referee Szymon Marciniak blowing his whistle for offside after the linesman flagged, as seconds later Matthijs de Ligt fired the ball into the net.

Because of the early whistle, the decision could not be referred to VAR and replays showed Noussair Mazraoui was actually onside.

Bayern were denied an all-German clash and repeat of the 2013 Wembley final with Dortmund and the loss set a Champions League record that the Bavarians will not be proud of.

It's emerged, courtesy of @centregoals, that Bayern have lost 11 times to Real in the Champions League.

And no side has lost more to the same opponent in the history of the competition.

Real's most devastating win over Bayern came in the 2013/14 semi-finals when they pumped them 4-0 in the second leg at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern must be sick of the sight of Real, who are now looking to claim their 15th Champions League triumph.

Thomas Tuchel had never lost a Champions League semi-final until Wednesday night but Carlo Ancelotti's side did their thing once again.

“It’s happened again. It’s inexplicable," Ancelotti said after another Bernabeu comeback.

"A fantastic ground, players who don’t stop believing. It’s a magical thing. We have played well. It was complicated. We had good control of the game and then we had the strength to not lose our head.

“We must thank the fans and the club. And to the players, because they have had a season that nobody expected. Including myself. Getting to the final is a success, no matter what."
