Goals from Erling Haaland and Viktor Gyokeres helped Manchester City and Arsenal have a hand in creating Champions League history on Tuesday evening.
Man City’s trip to Villarreal went exactly as they would’ve liked, with Pep Guardiola’s side securing a comfortable 2-0 win thanks to Haaland, who scored for the 12th consecutive match, while Bernardo Silva’s first-half strike ensured the three points went back to Manchester.
Gyokeres’ brace fired Arsenal to an emphatic 4-0 victory over La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid, with Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli also getting on the scoresheet for Mikel Arteta’s side, who boast a perfect record of three wins from three matches in Europe’s premier club competition this term.

Elsewhere, European champions Paris Saint-Germain beat Bayer Leverkusen 7-2 as Desire Doue starred with two goals to maintain Luis Enrique’s side’s 100 percent record in Europe so far this term.
And the goals were seemingly flying in left, right and centre across Europe on a thoroughly entertaining evening of Champions League action as PSV shocked Napoli in a 6-2 rout in Eindhoven.
Borussia Dortmund hit four past Copenhagen in their 4-2 victory in Denmark as Jobe Bellingham registered his first assist since arriving from Sunderland, while Inter beat Union Saint-Gilloise 4-0 thanks to strikes by Denzel Dumfries, Lautaro Martinez, Hakan Calhanoglu and Francesco Esposito.
In Newcastle, Eddie Howe’s side brushed Jose Mourinho’s Benfica aside with a 3-0 victory thanks to a Harvey Barnes double and a strike from Anthony Gordon.

In total, 43 goals were scored across nine matches on Champions League gameweek three, which, excluding the final day of the 2024/25 league phase, was the highest-scoring day in the competition’s history with an average of 4.8 strikes per match.
Back in October 1997, 44 goals were scored across 12 matches but last night's round of matches had a higher average amount of goals per game.
