The draw for the second round of the Carabao Cup takes place on Wednesday night, with Manchester United coming in at this stage of the competition for the first time in 11 years.

Because they finished 15th in the Premier League and failed to beat Spurs in the Europa League final, United have a year free of European football this term and so are entering the League Cup at the second round.

A new preliminary round took place which saw Newport County and Accrington Stanley progress to the first round following wins over Barnet and Oldham Athletic - who were both promoted from the National League.

The first round began on Tuesday and continues with the final fives games on Wednesday, with Championship sides in action.

11 Premier League sides join the party in the second round before the remaining nine - all in European competition - come into the fold in the third round.

The draw is split into Northern and Southern sections for the first two rounds, meaning United cannot draw sides from the South.

After the ball numbers were confirmed by the EFL, the second round ties are expected to be announced by Mark Chapman on Sky Sports at around 7.20 and ahead of the draw, The Sun have simulated proceedings with some huge results.

Man United handed huge Carabao Cup tie

According to the simulation, United, who are No.10 in the draw, will travel to the Racecourse Ground to face history-makers Wrexham, owned by Hollywood pair Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.

United and Wrexham met in a friendly fixture in July 2023, with Phil Parkinson's side beating the young Red Devils 3-1.

Their last competitive fixture was an FA Cup tie in 1995, where United won 5-2. United's last second round League Cup tie isn't the best omen, however, as they were trounced 4-0 by MK Dons back in 2014.

Elsewhere, Everton and Wolves take on Wigan and Stockport, while West Ham will host League Two side Bromley and Brentford and Brighton meet in a Premier League clash.
