Kaoru Mitoma scores incredible solo goal for Brighton after ‘greatest first touch of all-time’ as Jamie Carragher left speechless

Brighton star Kaoru Mitoma has scored one of the greatest solo goals in Premier League history - and it left Jamie Carragher briefly speechless on commentary.

The Japan international put the Seagulls 1-0 up against Chelsea in the 26th minute with perhaps the best goal of his career.

From a long goal kick upfield by Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, Mitoma watched the ball all the way onto his foot with aplomb before producing an exquisite touch.

He then cut inside and beyond Trevoh Chalobah before curling the ball past Filip Jorgensen and into the corner of the net.

The goal left Carragher, on Sky Sports commentary, almost lost for words briefly - and the Amex Stadium erupted.

Seconds later, he said: "What have we just seen? That was outrageous from Mitoma.

"The touch is as good as anything you'll see in the Premier League this season. Wow. And the finish isn't bad either. It's Messi-like. And I don't say that lightly."

The goal will perhaps have not been a huge surprise to those close to Mitoma, though - as he completed his university thesis on the subject of dribbling.

It was scored just weeks after Brighton rejected a reported £75 million bid from the Saudi Pro League for the Japan international.

That was according to talkSPORT, who claimed that the Seagulls rejected two offers from Al Nassr to sign the 27-year-old winger.

It was added that Mitoma had no desire to leave, and Brighton had no desire to sell a player that has a contract with them until the summer of 2027.

The winger has bounced back from an injury-hit 2023/24 campaign to play in 25 matches for Fabian Hurzeler's side this term, with this being his eighth Premier League goal of the season.

Al Nassr did sign striker Jhon Duran for £75 million from Aston Villa, with the 21-year-old Colombian striker now teaming up with Cristiano Ronaldo.
