Brazil fans are calling for a huge change to their starting XI after their Copa America campaign got off to a disappointing start.

Brazil are always one of the favourites in any major tournament they take part in, but they didn't live up to that tag in their opening game of the 2024 Copa America.

The five-time World Cup winners were held to a goalless draw by Costa Rica in Los Angeles on Monday night, meaning Brazil have now gone five competitive matches without a win.

Last autumn Brazil lost three consecutive World Cup qualifiers, meaning they have taken just seven points from six qualifiers. After drawing with the United States in a pre-tournament friendly, Brazil legend Ronaldinho said he won't be watching any of his nation's games.

Monday's draw was not a disaster for Dorival Junior's side, but it now looks unlikely that they will win Group D.

A second place finish would set Brazil up to face the winner of Group C in the quarter-finals; as things stand that would be Uruguay.

Though Brazil dominated possession against Costa Rica and registered an xG rating of 1.69 (compared to their opponents 0.03) the Selecao could not find a way through.

Brazil's struggles prompted Dorival to replace Barcelona winger Raphina with soon-to-be Manchester City wide man Savio, who immediately made a solid impression.

During his 20-minute cameo the 20-year-old completed six of eight attempted dribbles, completed 13 of 14 passes and created one chance.

Savio - who came into the tournament off the back of a superb season with La Liga side Girona - looked livelier than Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, who was withdrawn with 20 minutes left to play.

Fans are now calling for Savio to start Brazil's second group match against Paraguay on Friday evening and the final group game against Colombia on Tuesday July 2.

"Savio’s one of the few real Brazilians remaining," one fan commented on X, while another replied: "He's such a baller man."

A third fan suggested how Brazil should set up in attack: "Rodrygo should be at 10, Vini on the left, Savio on the right. Evanilson or Endrick up top."

Others raised concerns about Vinicius, who is widely expected to win the 2024 Ballon d'Or.

"Something very concerning with Vinicius Jr in a Brazil shirt," one fan said.

"He doesn’t look the same player. In the last two years he’s completed 24/69 dribbles in 17 games for Brazil. 1.4 dribbles per game. A 34% success rate."

One X user replied: "Real Madrid’s fans pretend that he [Vinicius] is better than Neymar."
