Birmingham City have plotted a move for one of Liverpool’s Champions League winners, it has been claimed.

The Blues, who are part owned by Tom Wagner and NFL legend Tom Brady, are hoping to claim back-to-back promotions after finishing top of League One last term.

They have made a steady start to life in the Championship, sitting in sixth place upon registering a win and a draw in the opening two games.

And with the transfer window still open, The Mirror have reported that Birmingham have made an ambitious move to sign former Arsenal and Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The 32-year-old is currently at Besiktas, but would reportedly be open to a return to English football.

The publication has claimed there has been interest from the Premier League and that Turkish side Besiktas would be happy to let him go should they be able to find a suitable deal.

Oxlade-Chamberlain enjoyed an illustrious Premier League career with Arsenal and Liverpool, winning the Champions League with the latter in 2019 as well as the Merseyside club’s first league title in 30 years the following season.

However, his career has been blighted by injury, while his time in Turkey has been complicated.

In the two years since Oxlade-Chamberlain has been at Besiktas, he has played for nine managers.

Indeed, last summer, just a year into his three-year contract there, he was frozen out by the club as they attempted to shift his reported £70,000-a-week wages.

He was then cut from their Europa League group-stage squad. Ultimately, Oxlade-Chamberlain was not given a single first team minute under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who was appointed in July 2024, and sacked in November.

However, upon being given a chance from the bench in early December, a game that saw Oxlade-Chamberlain net the only goal in a 1-0 win over Fenerbahce, he has enjoyed a mini-resurgence under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
