Why Aston Villa are wearing a different sponsor on their shirt in the Champions League against Young Boys

Why Aston Villa are wearing a different sponsor on their shirt in the Champions League against Young Boys

Aston Villa will have a different sponsor from their last game for their Champions League tie.

Aston Villa will have a different sponsor on their shirt for tonight's Champions League clash against Young Boys.

Villa, who finished in fourth place in the Premier League last season, face Young Boys in what will be the team's first game in Europe's top club competition since 1983.

The Midlands outfit also take on the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus and Celtic in the new-look Champions League format.

And ahead of their tie in Switzerland, Villa will have a different sponsor on their shirt.

The Premier League side have a sponsorship deal with Betano but their principal partners have donated the space back to the club, who have, in turn, donated the space to Acorns.

The club's long-standing relationship with the hospice goes back to 2008 and was previously their shirt sponsors.

Director of Fundraising at Acorns Children's Hospice Vicki Rowles said: "We are extremely honoured to have our logo featured on Aston Villa’s shirts for their UEFA Champions League debut against Young Boys.

"Help can’t wait for the children and families who desperately need us. Thanks to the support of Aston Villa and the global exposure of the Champions League, we can reach even more families in need.

"We’re truly grateful to our friends at Aston Villa for their continued dedication to Acorns.

"We wish the team the very best of luck for tonight’s game."

Villa's President of Business Operations Chris Heck added: "We are delighted that Betano came to us to offer up the opportunity and ask who are the best beneficiaries of the space.

"It was an absolute no-brainer to bring Acorns back onto the front of shirt, an organisation close to the hearts of everyone involved with Aston Villa."

Villa head into their Champions League tie against Young Boys having beaten Everton 3-2 last weekend.

Unai Emery's side came from two goals down to beat the Toffees 3-2.
