Richard Keys Calls for Major Change Following Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest

Richard Keys was not impressed by what he was watching during Arsenal's 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Richard Keys has demanded a major change to Premier League coverage after watching Arsenal's comfortable 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

After a narrow defeat to Liverpool at Anfield last time out, the Gunners returned to winning ways at the Emirates with a brace from Martin Zubimendi either side of a strike from new striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Not known for his goals, holding midfielder Zubimendi bagged a brilliant volley to open the scoring and headed home the third in the second half following Gyokeres' tap in from Eberechi Eze's cross.

The lunchtime kick-off was shown live on TNT Sports but Keys, the former presenter for Sky Sports and now an anchor for beIN Sports, did not enjoy one particular element.

Over the course of the broadcast, the feed regularly cut to a 'Ref Cam' - showing official Darren England's perspective for the clash.

It is a new feature introduced for the 2025/26 campaign, with it almost looking like footage from a video game.

But while it is used to give a new camera angle and did that wonderfully on Sky for Dominik Szoboszlai's stunning free-kick winner against arsenal, Keys wants it scrapped.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote: "Please. Refcam. Enough already. What’s the point?"

What is ref cam?

Ref cam is quite literally what it says on the tin. In select fixtures this term, referees have worn cameras on their shirts as well as having an earpiece and a microphone attached.

The feed is not available live as an alternative angle but is used for replays of key incidents in the game such as goals.

However, as expected, there is no focus on any kind of controversy during matches.

Cameras were used by referees at the Club World Cup as well as the Premier League Summer Series, which was a pre-season tournament in the United States i

IFAB (International Football Association Board) signed off extending the trial to domestic and international competitions.

In Crystal Palace's 4-0 win over Manchester United in May 2024, Jarred Gillett was the first referee to wear one in the Premier League on a one-off basis for a match officials programme.
